Coaching for Creatives with Tracy Johnson

Mondays 13th, 20th & 27th April 2026 6.30- 8.30 pm Cost: £75 (£50 for the over-60s and students)

If you’ve ever struggled to stay motivated with your creative work, to find a practice or routine that works for you, or to keep believing in your own talent and capability, this workshop series is exactly what you need to press the reset button.

Whether you’re a writer, artist, sculptor, photographer or musician, learning to coach yourself into being creative is an invaluable skill that could make the difference between feeling stuck and making progress.

I’ve been coaching for over 20 years, as well as being a writer who knows how it feels to be stuck for ideas or discouraged by rejection. Over three sessions, I want to share with you the techniques I use with clients to boost their confidence, as well as working out what a productive creative practice looks like for you: no ‘one size fits all’ solutions.

How it works

Each week will begin with some input from me on coaching, neuroscience and psychology, as well as offering practical techniques to reflect on and try out. After a break, facilitated group coaching gets everyone working together to share stories and solve problems, creating a repository of skills between you. At the end of each session, you’ll choose a task for yourself to work on before we meet again.

I particularly welcome the nervous and neurodivergent; there’s no pressure to present or perform in any way, and there will be no critiquing anyone’s work. This is about learning what works for you as a creative and putting it into practice, with confidence.

You can look forward to learning:

  • the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and why one works better
  • how to work with your brain’s reward mechanism
  • how to create your perfect routine or practice
  • daily disciplines to keep your creative tools sharp
  • how to coach yourself to greater self-confidence
  • how to become more emotionally resilient
  • how to ditch ‘imposter syndrome’ and reframe unhelpful self-sabotage
  • how to be more confident when presenting your work to others
  • how to design a project development plan that will get you over the line.

About me

I trained in 2005-6 and have been consistently working in private practice as Brainbox Coaching, as well as delivering coaching and training as a contractor, to companies including ITV, Havas Media, Sweaty Betty and Triodos Bank. I hold a PhD in English Literature, lecturing in literary theory, poetry and critical thinking, and I continue to publish academic work. My poetry and short stories have been published in a wide range of journals, and my debut novel, a literary horror comedy about the art world, is currently seeking a publisher, having been described as “amazingly original” (Fly on the Wall Press) and “repulsive and compelling” (Moist Books). I also work as a portrait and event photographer.

Cost: £75 (£50 for the over-60s and students)

This includes the option to take up a discounted 1:1 coaching session with me at £40, instead of £60, within 12 months of finishing the course.
